First of all, I want to tell you that Shinobu is very kind person who always talks using polite words. Here even against Tomioka who controls her movement, she talks to him in a polite way. Understanding her nature, let’s start today’s lesson with a manga Demon Slayer!

なのです: used for predication, explanation
か: <sentence-endig particle> used to make an interrogative sentence

Explanation 1 | どういうつもり doiutsumori

When you hear someone says to you “doiu tsumori”, the person must be angry! Apologize as soon as possible if you had no intention to make him/her angry.

It literally means “what intention do you have?” but usually it means “I can’t believe it you did that!” So be careful both when you use this phrase or when you are told it by someone.

Explanation 2 | なんですか nandesuka

If this is written properly, “なですか (nanodesuka)”, but when you speak, “なですか (nandesuka)” is OK to use.
“なんですか Nandesuka” sounds a little rough but still polite.
Shinobu uses polite words even she must be very irritated by Giyu. Awesome.

This is used for for asking a question, for accusing or when surprised by something/someone.

その女の子は鬼なんですか?sono onnanoko wa oni nandesukaIs that girl a demon?
あなたの日輪刀の色は黒なんですか?anata no nichirinto no iro wa kuro nandesukaIs your Nichirin sword black?

Explanation 3 | Another なんですか (nandesuka)

何ですか This is also “Nandesuka” with the same sound as “なんですか” but it has a different meaning. It can be used solely meaning “What?””What can I do?” Depending on the situation it sounds blunt, be careful about tone your voice not to be curt. Saying 何でしょう(nandesho) would sound more polite.

By the way… Boss Muzan told “何だ(nanda)” to Kagen of 12 Kizuki (lower moons). No humanity just scary.

JPNJPN♪MEANING

That’s all!

どういうつもりですか was a phrase to ask someone’s unbelievable act.

When you use it, be sure this question might be unpleasant for someone!
